The railway system is about to undergo a positive revolution. People are realizing the benefits of rail travel and transportation, and our railway system is getting busier than ever. Rail transport generates approximately $10 billion annually, with 95% coming from rail freight operations and 5% from commuter and passenger rail.
Canada has over 44,917 route kilometres of track, and the rail and transit industry employs over 60,000 Canadians to keep it running.
At NARP, we’re dedicated to supporting today’s rail industry needs and planning for the next revolution of Canada’s railway systems. Keep reading to learn more about how we support this vital industry.
We support Canada’s railway system with quality, rail material
We recognize that railway safety is partially dependent on rail materials. Poor-quality rail materials and equipment are more likely to fail or become damaged, leading to costly track downtime or dangerous derailments.
NARP supplies everything you need from the ballast up, including rail, OTMs, turnouts, and switches. We’re also well-connected with other rail suppliers, so if there’s something you need that we don’t carry ourselves, we can find it for you.
At NARP, we understand that every project has unique requirements. We offer new, relayed (used), and refurbished rail materials and products. Whether you need a stock item or something specific, we have the capability to manufacture it to your exact specifications.
We support rail companies with services and innovative solutions
Not only does the NARP team support the industry with supplies and parts, but our services help you optimize your operations and manage costs.
Our goal is to help you build and maintain your rail system. Our railway services include:
- Refurbishing switch points, switch stands, frogs, and diamond crossings.
- Supplying relay rail of all varieties and to customers’ specifications.
- Sorting and Tear-Up/Abandonments
- Sorting all rail materials (relay and refurbished)
- Manufacturing Special Track Work consisting of switch points, frogs, base plates, and switch rods (we can manufacture and build to your needs and specifications)
- Manufacturing and assembling complete turnouts to all standard specifications (we can manufacture to your requirements)
- Delivering all our products to our customers on-site.
One project we’ve been particularly excited to participate in is the upcoming public transit project in Vancouver, BC: The Broadway Subway Project. We’re proud to supply the engineering team with rails and storage for this vital infrastructure project.
This project will add 5.7km of Skytrain tracks connecting the existing VCC-Clark Station to the new Arbutus station. It includes:
- 700 metres of elevated track
- 5 km of underground track
- 6 new underground stations
We help by staying connected to the industry
In the evolving world of transportation and safety, we must stay on top of industry trends, technology, and regulations. To help us do this, we maintain solid ties and memberships in a variety of industry associations, including:
- The Railway Association of Canada
- Canadian Association of Railway Suppliers
- Le Groupe Traque
- AREMA
- NRC
- Canadian Railway Club
- Toronto Railway Club
We give back to our community
Our business is also dedicated to supporting our local community. The Delta and Chilliwack NARP teams have provided food pick-up and delivery on Wednesdays to support the local Starfish Program in South Delta.
Many students across BC rely on school breakfast and lunch programs to fill their tummies on school days, but these programs don’t help on the weekends. Starfish Pack was designed to help change this by distributing packs of 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and snacks to hungry students each weekend of the school year.
If you’d like to donate to a Starfish Pack Program near you, visit their website for more details.
We optimize our services with regional locations
For our clients, timely delivery of rail supplies is critical. That’s why we have regional offices and rail yards in multiple cities, and we can ship products across Canada and the US to meet your requirements.
Currently, we have locations in:
- Delta, BC
- Chilliwack, BC
- Argyle, Manitoba
Servicing Canada’s railway system with Universal Rail Systems group of companies
The Universal Rail Systems group of companies aims to create value for their clients. As a proud member of this brand, NARP works closely with our sister companies to deliver on this promise.
We get excited about rail innovations and new tech
Businesses of the future need to be open to new technologies and processes to help optimize their business operations and client services. The rail industry is no stranger to new developments, and we’re excited to watch them evolve and add them to our services and knowledge base as soon as they benefit our clients.
For example, drones and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are already used to optimize railway maintenance. Drones with specialized cameras can fly over remote track sections and take pictures or videos. AI can then analyze these images to identify areas that require attention or replacement.
We’re also excited to watch the innovations in rail transportation, especially as they relate to implementing greener technology for our trains. Today’s locomotives are becoming greener with a lower carbon footprint…which is why train transportation is more environmentally friendly than trucks and vehicles.
In the railway business, speed is everything
NARP is the track star of rail products, supplies, and services in an industry where speed is critical. We’re dedicated to serving our clients and helping them obtain what they need to build, maintain, or dismantle rail lines safely.
